Overview

Topco Associates is currently seeking a General Ledger Staff Accountant for the Accounting team in Itasca, IL. This position will be a hybrid role, with the successful candidate conducting work in our Itasca office three times per week and virtually twice per week.

We are seeking an innovative accountant to help lead change in the general accounting realm, inclusive of work amongst the general account finance, and fuel teams. Under the direction of the Account Manager, the General Ledger Staff Accountant monitors and controls monthly close activities ensuring the completion of tasks by required deadlines. Ensures accurate and complete accounting. Prepares and communicates performance opportunity analyses to management. Participates  in challenging the status quo and driving home accounting process efficiency improvements.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Challenges the status quo and is able to recommend methods to become more accurate or efficient
  • Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments
  • Analyzes information and options by developing spreadsheet reports; verifying information
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts
  • Maintains and balances reconciliation of general ledger accounts, ensuring justification of all balances
  • Spins Sales - Whare there are distribution sales, these may be reclassified to the proper member of Topco
  • Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential

 

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION CRITERIA

Successful peformance in these job functions should result in:

  • Timely GL Account review & reconciliation
  • Accurate journal entries & tax returns
  • Accurate and timely report preparation and distribution
  • Constant collaboration amongst team
  • Timely completion and delivery of special projects as needed

Qualifications

Education:

  • Four-year college degree in accounting
  • 150 credit hours preferred
  • CPA achieved or CPA eligible and determination to complete preferred

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel
  • SAP experience is preferred
  • Good understanding of internal controls

 

Previous experience:

  • One to four years of accounting experience preferred

Other qualifications:

  • Organized self-starter, able to work independently
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines on a regular basis
  • Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and priorities
  • Committed individual to take ownership and bring high personal standards to workplace
  • Ability to think outside the box, and do things differently, to become more efficient via elimination, automation, or outsourcing

Salary Range

$70,000 - $80,000/annually
