Staff Accountant (Hybrid)

Topco Associates is currently seeking a Staff Accountant for the Accounting team in Itasca, IL. This position will be a hybrid role, with the successful candidate conducting work in our Itasca office three times per week and virtual twice per week.

Topco Associates is currently seeking a Staff Accountant for the Fuel Accounting team in Itasca, IL. Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Staff Accountant monitors and controls monthly close activities, ensuring the completion of tasks by required deadlines. Ensures accurate and complete accounting. Prepares and communicates performance and opportunity analyses to management.

  Work with Fuel Members and Vendors on daily discrepancies while providing accurate information in a timely manner
• Work closely with the Senior Fuel Accountant during the monthly fuel close accounting procedures
• Perform various monthly fuel accounting close procedures, including; inventory reconciliation, P&L reconciliation & analysis, and tax return filing.
• Prepares general ledger journal entries by maintaining records and files, reconciling accounts 
• Maintains and balances reconciliation of general ledger fuel accounts, ensuring justification of all balances 
• Partner with the Fuel Operations & Treasury teams to ensure all member and vendor discrepancies are taken care of in an efficient manner
• Learns our tax software provider IGEN to prepare and file monthly/quarterly state tax returns to be in compliance with state tax rules and regulations
• Prepare work papers for year-end audit and assist outside auditors with year-end audit

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION CRITERIA

• Timely GL Account review & reconciliation 
• Accurate journal entries
• Accurate and timely report preparation and distribution 
• Constant collaboration amongst team 
• Timely completion and delivery of special projects as needed

Education:

• Four-year college degree in accounting or finance

Technical skills:

• Proficient in MS Office Suite. Advanced skills in MS Excel. 
• Good understanding of internal controls
• SAP experience preferred

Previous experience:

• One to two years of accounting or financial analysis experience preferred.

Other qualifications:

• Organized self-starter, able to work independently
• Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines on a regular basis
• Ability to successfully handle multiple projects and priorities
• Committed individual to take ownership and bring high personal standards to the workplace
