    Topco Associates is currently seeking a Brand Manager for the Marketing team in Elk Grove Village, IL.


    Topco Associates, LLC is a cooperative of over forty of the nation’s regional grocery retailers and wholesalers that are our member-owners. Celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2019, Topco aggregates Own Brand volume and expertise for over 15,000 grocery stores. The Brand Marketing team is responsible for championing the creation and growth of $3 Billion in Retail Own Brand Dollars including brands, such as Food Club, Simply Done, TopCare, Full Circle Market, Wide Awake and Culinary Tours.


    Topco’s Brand Team develops the brand portfolio and shopper marketing strategies to drive shopper loyalty at Topco’s grocery member retailers. As strategic advisors to our member-owners, we influence marketing and merchandising activation through developing recommendations based on a shopper-centric, data-driven approach.


    Under the direction of the Senior Brand Manager, the Brand Manager will be responsible for managing multiple Retailer Exclusive Brand portfolios in various food or non-food grocery channel product categories.  In addition to being a strategic advisor to all Member Retailers/Wholesalers, on assigned brands, this individual  will be a single point of contact for one to three specific Member Retailers/Wholesalers, on behalf of the entire Brand team, influencing at the senior leadership levels to drive growth in Retailer Exclusive  Brand sales.


    1. Develops or refines vision and strategy, for assigned brands, including identification of target shoppers along with  Brand positioning,  guardrails, and feature / benefit claims
    2. Gathers and analyzes a mix of  custom research, macro trends, field research  and syndicated data to uncover and convert consumer, retailer and market insights data into cohesive brand and business strategy recommendations 
    3. Builds comprehensive marketing strategies to drive short and long term growth of assigned brands
    4. Partners with both internal and external creative teams in the development of compelling marketing communication materials, including packaging graphics, that effectively brings brand positioning strategies to life
    5. Collaborates with Topco Category teams to identify innovative brand portfolio growth opportunities from both a product pipeline and merchandising tools perspective
    6. Acts as a strategic advisor to Member Retailers, in the development of sound go-to-market strategies and plans for Retailer Own Brands, that address a mix of retail macro trends, along with Retailer specific insights
    7. Trains & develops Direct Reports, optimizing individual capabilities and building the ability for advancement
    8. All other duties as assigned



    • BA/BS in Marketing, General Business or related field or equivalent experience.
    • MBA preferred


    Technical skills:

    • Excel and PowerPoint skills
    • Understanding of Market Intelligence tools and output (e.g. IRI, Nielsen)


    Previous Experience:

    Minimum 5 years of cross-functional commercial experience (sales, marketing, activation, product management, etc.) in a business to consumer or business to business industry.

    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills.
    • Expertise in syndicated data analysis with the ability to draw action oriented conclusions.
    • Project Management experience.
    • A team player having the ability to interact and influence effectively in a matrix organization.
    • Passion for creating world-class brand solutions that delight shoppers/ consumers and deliver significant business results.
    • Enthusiastic, willing to learn and evolve in a challenging environment.
    • High level of self-motivation/initiative.
    • Results oriented; ability to deliver on commitments and follow through.
    • Understanding of how business decisions & investments impact P&L drivers
    • Previous supervisory experience.
