    Topco Associates is currently seeking a Regulatory and Nutrition Specialist for the Quality Assurance department in Elk Grove Village, IL.

     

    This position encompasses a variety of nutrition, labeling and regulatory projects to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal regulations.

    Responsibilities

    Responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    1. Review, comment and provide feedback on all food and non-food labels to ensure regulatory compliance.
    2. Review specifications and product information as necessary to ensure vendor accuracy, completeness and reasonableness of information. Articulately communicate issues and discrepancies to facilitate resolution.
    3. Ensure products comply with kosher and organic requirements and certifications are on-file.
    4. Collaborate with Quality Assurance, Category Management, Marketing, Creative Services and Packaging Development during label design and development.
    5. Research and provide regulatory consultation on labeling compliance inquiries. Review documentation to substantiate labeling claims.
    6. Provide accurate product information to internal partners and external members.
    7. Monitor and maintain up-to-date knowledge of food labeling regulatory activity and relevant industry trends.
    8. Compile and report metrics on a periodic basis. Highlight trends and potential opportunities for Topco and Topco members.
    9. Assist in creation and maintenance of positions, policies and procedures for department functions.
    10. Assist the Regulatory and Quality Assurance teams on projects.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Science-related degree in Nutrition, Food Science or closely related background is preferred.
    • Registered Dietitian credential preferred.

    Technical skills:

    • Familiarity with food regulations including: Food and Drug Administration (FDA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), food and non-food product safety, product labeling and/or nutrition science. Knowledge of Consumer Product Safety Commission or Federal Trade Commission a plus.
    • Strong computer skills including all Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access).
    • Knowledge of kosher and organic certification documentation.
    • Ability to use and understand large amounts of data and complex data systems.

    Previous experience:

    • A minimum of two years’ experience in a food or nutrition related-industry required. Labeling or regulatory experience a plus.

    Other qualifications:

    • Ability to work independently without close supervision on a daily basis.
    • Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks/projects of varying complexities and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to maintain strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with others orally and in writing.
    • Ability to work effectively and in a professional manner with people at all levels.
    • Ability to use multiple resources and synthesize information coming from multiple sources.
