    Topco Associates is currently seeking a Senior Director/Business Unit Lead for the Center Store team for Health & Beauty Care, General Merchandise and Non-Edible Grocery products in Elk Grove Village, IL. 

     

    The HBC/GM/Non-Edible Business Unit Lead will deliver sales and net patronage for specific category responsibilities as well as establish and accomplish business objectives for their team.  They will develop and manage category teams and lead the development of category solutions to drive member participation and growth. They are also responsible for direct member engagement for all categories within the department.  Provide leadership and vision to the organization by assisting the Center Store Lead and staff  with the development of long range and annual plans, and with the evaluation and  reporting of progress on plans.  Plans will include initiatives to achieve sales, NPE and productivity targets.  The Business Unit Lead will manage a team of 3 direct reports and about $700MM in sales.

    Responsibilities

    Business Plans

    • Oversee preparation of long range and annual budget, regular variance statements and annual audit.
    • Establish and achieve sales, profits and productivity goals
    • Conceptualize and create goals, objectives, and action plans for programs and categories; provide direction to the Category Leads
    • Increase member participation in programs through collaboration with the Member Development team.
    • Provide strategic direction for programs and brands within assigned categories
    • Provide strategic direction for supplier relationship management for those suppliers that cross multiple categories.
    • Identify broader consumer trends and recommend the development of new products through the New Item Commercialization Process
    • Participate in QA cuttings, member meetings, supplier meetings,and industry functions

     People Management 

    • Increases team's effectiveness by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training, coaching, and counseling managers; communicating values, strategies, and objectives; assigning accountabilities; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; developing incentives; developing a climate for offering information and opinions; providing educational opportunities.
    • Develop talent and prepare succession plans
    • Manage employee relations

     Member Experience

    • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing organization standards.
    • Becomes escalation point if issues cannot be resolved at the category level.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Bachelor's degree, Master’s degree preferred

     

    Technical skills:

    Strong sales and leadership skills; Ability to use business software at an advanced level.

     

    Previous Experience:

    3-5 years leading a business entity; minimum 10 years exposure to consumer product goods and/or retail industry

     

    Other qualifications:

    • Proven ability to build, manage and foster a team-oriented environment
    • Hands-on strategy and business development experience within grocery retail, general retail, CPG or related industries
    • Strong strategic thinker with ability to articulate and prioritize strategies, as well as translate them into action across all functions within the organization
    • Superior executive presence and ability to collaborate with senior leaders within both Topco and our member-owner organizations
    • Proven ability to work across the organization to influence and coordinate resources and deliver results
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to travel 25%
